Reconsidering the cliché that 'leverage equals instant ruin.' With discipline and compounding it becomes a structural edge; without those, it is forbidden ground. Why this is not a recommendation.
"Use leverage and you blow up" is repeated without a subject. The accurate sentence is —
Used without a framework for capital and discipline, leverage accelerates ruin almost certainly.
That is not a statement about leverage. It is a statement about the operator. Leverage is closer to fuel than to a weapon. A canister kicked by someone who has not seen the engine schematic explodes; the same canister, in the hands of someone who has, becomes powerful and lightweight propulsion.
Japan's 25× retail FX cap exists because the majority of participants demonstrably kick the canister. That cap is reasonable as policy, and this essay does not argue against it.
What this essay does is examine, calmly, the structural property that lets a small number of disciplined operators use leverage as a tool to buy time on the compounding curve.
