Measures which side, buyers or sellers, held control of a single bar by reading where the close landed relative to the open within the bar's range, on a scale from minus 1 to plus 1. An oscillator that reads the imbalance of force hidden behind a trend from the makeup of price action, not volume.
The Balance of Power (BOP) is an oscillator that measures which side, buyers or sellers, was in control within a single bar.
Where many indicators average or take ratios across several bars, the BOP first looks at the makeup of just one bar.
From open to close, which way did price move? And how much of the bar's range (high to low) did that move occupy? Capturing both at once, it expresses which side dominated the bar, buying or selling, as a value between minus 1 and plus 1.
Positive means buyers led, a bar that closed above the open and near the high. Negative means sellers led, a bar that closed below the open and near the low.
The aim of the BOP is to make visible, one bar at a time, not how far price moved but who drove that move, reading the imbalance of force hidden behind a trend before it surfaces.
